Dani: Thank you so much for being here, Shauna! First, would you please tell us a little about yourself?

Shauna: I found my hero five years ago and was lucky enough to snap him up. We live in Orlando, Florida with our six year old son and two cats.

Dani: Where did you get the “itch” to write?

Shauna: I started writing in grade school.  When I was in middle school and high school, friends would ask me for more chapters in each class.  It was a great motivator to keep going.

Dani: How long have you been writing?

Shauna: I’ve been writing all my life, but I began trying to get published about seven years ago.

Dani: Could you tell us about your debut book for your Club X Series, The Pleasure of Sin?

Shauna: The Pleasure of Sin begins when Jade Monroe finds out that her sister, Ruby, has been murdered.  In an effort to find her sister’s killer, Jade must face the one man she has never been able to get over.

Dani: The book cover is beautiful! Could you tell us who designed it?

Shauna: I chose the picture and Nancy Donahue created the cover. I was very lucky!

Dani: Also, Congratulations! I heard you received the contract for the 2nd book in the Club X Series. Could you give us a little hint or tell us a bit about the 2nd book?

Shauna: In Den of Desire, the club’s sexy owner, Joe Gates, meets his match in erotic romance writer, Mara Templeton.  Needing a little bit of inspiration, she arranges for an after-hours tour of the Club.  What she doesn’t expect is that Joe Gates can see right through her…and her writing.

Dani: Where do you get your ideas for your books?

Shauna: It usually begins with the question “what if?”  In the case of my new book, Den of Desire, it began with what if the club’s owner read your erotic romance and could tell you weren’t as experienced as you tried to portray?  A few of the ideas for my books came in the form of dreams.

Dani: Are any of your characters based on real people?

Shauna: Unfortunately, all of my characters are fictional.  But, to me, they are all quite real 🙂

Dani: What are you currently working on?

Shauna: Right now, I’m working on the third book in the Club X series, which will feature another owner of the Club.  But, don’t worry, you will get to meet him in Den of Desire.

Dani: What’s been the best experience in your writing career?

Shauna: Nothing will ever beat getting that first contract.  Another moment would probably be seeing my book in print for the first time.  Those are moments that you never forget.

Dani: What’s been the worst experience in your writing career?

Shauna: Nobody likes rejections, and I will tell you that I have definitely had my fair share.  However, I don’t think that you can let it weigh you down.  You have to pick yourself up and keep writing.  There will always be moments of doubt, and you’re allowed to have them.  What you’re not allowed to do is give in to them.  Have the moment and then remember that this is what you want to do and you’re not going to give up.

Dani: Since you’re an author, I assume you’re an avid reader as well. What books do you enjoy reading? Who are you favorite authors? What books are on your keeper shelf?

Shauna: Obviously, I love romance.  I’ve been reading romance novels since I was 14.  Some of my keepers are:  Paradise by Judith McNaught, After the Night by Linda Howard, pretty much anything by Lacey Alexander and Shayla Black.  Right now, I’ve been obsessed with the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer.

Dani: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time (besides writing and reading of course)?

Shauna: Watching movies with my husband.  Playing video games with my son.  Okay, playing video games with my husband when my son is asleep (fine, I admit it)!  My husband and I love to travel when we have the chance. We were lucky enough to go on a Mediterranean cruise for our honeymoon, which traveled to Greece and Italy.

Thanks again, Shauna for being here today!

  1. Oh, that is a nice cover. Okay, I’ll just ask the question I’m always asking authors…if you had to pick a song or two to go with the book or the series in general, what would it be? I’m a big music fan. haha

    -Lauren

  2. ohhh good question, Lauren. I’m curious about the answer as well 🙂

  3. Hi Lauren,

Hmmmm, that is a good question. I would say Six Underground by The Sneaker Pimps or Secret by Maroon 5.

  4. Hi Shauna! I am an aspiring author and was wondering how you are able to keep up with what seems like a very demanding schedule. I’ve read your help documents on your website and got a lot of ideas like starting a myspace page. The Pleasure of Sin was fantastic and I really liked the cover as well! Thanks!

  5. Hi Jenn,

Keeping up with two jobs isn’t easy. I think the worst part about being an aspiring author is that people only recognize one job. It takes a lot of drive and dedication. For me, I like to give myself little deadlines. I will tell myself that a book will be edited by a certain date. Usually, I make the deadline pretty rigid, because I like to push myself. Then, I just have to stick to it. Give yourself realistic goals, like I will have the book finished by 3 months from now. Or I will have it edited and submitted to two publishers by this date. That will keep you on track toward the ultimate goal of a contract.

Thanks for the kind words about the book, too 🙂

  6. Cool cover, Shauna! Your book sounds delish! And my Hero and I just got back from a Mediterranean cruise- okay, September, but I still get the shivers remembering it!

  7. Thanks for answering my question. I don’t know either of those songs, but I do like Maroon 5 in general. 🙂

  8. Hi Delle,

I loved the one my husband and I took for our honeymoon. It was perfect! It’s so beautiful there. My next dream trip is Egypt. But I love Italy and Greece.

  9. Hi Lauren,

If you get a chance, check out my myspace page. I have both songs on the playlist.

  10. My wife has your book, she ordered the paperback from Whiskey Creek Press. She has been reading to me in the car and she just finished reading it to me today. Kudos on a very well written book. You have a knack of getting just the right mix of mystery and the good stuff as my wife calls it. I really enjoyed the plot twists and also chapter 14. Lots of luck in the future on your upcoming projects. Have a great night!

  11. Hi Willie,

I’m glad you both are enjoying it!

    Thanks,
    Shauna

  12. Wow! Egypt? awesome, me too! I’ve wanted to go there for as long as I can remember. Plus, I’d love to go visit Europe as well. I’ve been to Germany and one city in Austria, but I’d love to back there and visit the other surrounding countries. 🙂

  13. Hi Dani,

I was really lucky to get to go on some amazing trips, but I’m definitely not done!

I can’t wait to go back.
    Shauna
